My name is Jill Merkel and I am a Registered Dietitian specializing in sports nutrition, health & wellness, body image, and disordered eating. 

Nutrition Philosophy

My philosophy is to focus on healthy eating (and lifestyle) most of the time. I don't believe in “one size fits all” when it comes to nutrition and every individual needs a plan that works for their body, their sport, and their goals. 

About Me

My journey into nutrition began when I set the goal to complete a half marathon and discovered a passion for running and nutrition. To improve my athletic performance I changed my eating habits by limiting fast food and paying closer attention to food labels. I was pleasantly surprised with the positive results, both physical and emotional, that came from making a few simple changes. This inspired me to want to help others see how taking small steps can ultimately lead to healthier living, prompting my return to school to pursue a degree in dietetics.

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics from the University of Southern Indiana, I moved to Salt Lake City to pursue a master's degree emphasizing in sports nutrition while completing the RD internship requirements.  

 

I have worked with athletes and clients of all ages and abilities including youth, high school, collegiate, professional (NFL, NHL, NBA, WNBA), and adult "weekend warriors". I am currently the team dietitian for the NFL Tennessee Titans and a consultant dietitian for Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) working with NBA G-League players.

My hobbies include running, photography, reading, and traveling. I have run over 80 races including 15 half marathons and one full marathon. I have a long-term goal of running a race in all 50 states.

I believe that all foods can fit into a healthy, balanced, sustainable way of eating. My nutrition coaching incorporates mindful eating principles, intuitive eating tools, non-diet approach, and is not weight-focused but rather behavior and health focused.
